What Makes Mateable Different
Every dating app promises to be "different." Most of them mean a new color scheme on the same swipe deck. Mateable actually is different, and it comes down to one decision we made early: your profile shouldn't just be a stack of photos judged in half a second. It should feel like yours — something people can browse, comment on, and get a sense of who you are before you ever match.
A profile page, not a profile card
Remember when your profile used to be a whole page instead of three swipeable photos and a bio? We brought that back. Every Mateable profile has a real page with a color theme you pick, room for actual detail about who you are, and a comment wall where people can say hello without needing to match first.
The comment wall
This is the one feature every new user asks about. Anyone logged in can leave a comment on your profile — no match required. You control it completely: turn comments off entirely if you want, and delete or hide anything on your own wall instantly, no waiting on a moderator. It's a low-pressure way for someone to say "hey, I liked your answer about hiking" before things ever get to a match.
Top Connections
You can feature people on your profile the old-fashioned way — but with one important rule: it only works for people you've actually matched with. No one gets featured who doesn't know you. It's self-expression without the "why did you put me on your top 8 when we've never spoken" problem the original version of this idea had.
Swipe if you want, browse if you don't
Some days you want the quick swipe deck. Other days you want to actually search — by interests, location, lifestyle tags, zodiac sign, whatever matters to you — and read real profiles instead of a card stack. Mateable gives you both, and they pull from the same pool of people, so you're never missing anyone depending on which mode you're in.
Matching isn't only for swipers
You don't have to be swiping to match with someone. Like a profile from Browse, from someone's actual profile page, or from the swipe deck — it's mutual interest that creates the match, not which button you happened to click.
Safety without losing the openness
An open comment wall and a browsable directory only work if people actually feel safe using them. Every profile has real photo verification, blocking removes you from someone's world completely and instantly (no more messages, no more visibility, no more comments), and reporting reaches an actual review queue, not a black hole.
Built by two people who actually wanted this to exist
We're not a venture-backed swipe factory optimizing for how long we can keep you staring at your phone. Mateable exists because dating apps had quietly stopped feeling like anyone's actual personality was in the room. We wanted a place where a profile could still feel like a little corner of the internet that's yours — not just a resume with a jawline.
