Swipe or Browse? When to Use Each Mode
Mateable gives you two different ways to meet people, and most users default to just one without realizing the other exists. Here's when to actually use each.
Swipe is for momentum.
Swipe mode is fast by design -- a quick yes or no, one profile at a time. It's the right move when you've got a few spare minutes and want to build up matches without overthinking it. The tradeoff is depth: you're making a call on a photo and a headline, not a full picture of someone.
Browse is for actually looking.
Browse lets you filter and explore on your own terms instead of taking whatever comes up next. It's slower, but it's where you catch the details swipe skips past -- a prompt answer that makes you laugh, a comment wall that shows how someone actually talks to people. If swipe feels like it's running out of people who feel right, browse is usually why.
The comment wall only really pays off in Browse.
Public comments are one of the things that make a Mateable profile feel less like a locked box -- you can say something before you've even matched. That only works if you're actually reading profiles, not just swiping past them. A good comment is also a much stronger opener than a cold "hey" once you do match.
Use swipe to stay warm, browse to find who you're actually looking for.
They're not competing modes -- they're built for different moods. A few minutes of swiping between other things keeps momentum going. A real browse session, when you've got the time to look closely, is usually where the better matches come from.
